  • 49.2% get 1 to 5 work emails after office hours.
  • 70% said they sometimes receive up to 10 emails daily.
  • 67% usually reply to these emails.
  • 16% always reply, no matter what.

74.6% spend up to 3 hours daily replying to emails. 12% spend even longer. 4% feel anxious if they don’t get any after-work emails. They see a quiet inbox as a bad sign.

Half of Brits say after-work emails hurt their personal lives. 9.8% say it affects them greatly.

How After-Work Emails Impact Brits

After-work emails cause four main problems:

  1. A constant feeling of being at work.
  2. Less time for themselves.
  3. Less time for family and friends.
  4. Fear that not replying could harm their career.

But not everyone feels pressured. 41.6% spend less than an hour on work emails after hours. Half of Brits say no after-work emails is a good thing. It shows their company respects their personal time.

Which Gender Is More Affected by After-Work Emails?

Men and women spend similar time replying to emails. 74.4% of both genders spend 3 or more hours on after-work emails.

Key findings:

  • 72.8% of men and 69.3% of women are affected by after-work emails.
  • 47.3% of men and 51% of women get up to 5 emails daily after work.
  • 69.9% of men and 64% of women usually reply.
  • 18% of men and 13.3% of women always reply.

Men feel they have no time for themselves or family. Women worry not replying could hurt their career.

43.5% of Brits think there should be a law against after-work emails. Most of these respondents are women.

What Age Group Spends the Most Time Replying to Emails?

Young workers are most affected by after-work emails. 75% of Brits aged 18-24 get up to 10 emails daily after work.

This could show their eagerness to impress in new roles. But it might also lead to unhealthy work habits later in life.

The Profession That Can’t Switch Off

The energy and utility industry tops the list for after-work emails. Workers here get 6 to 10 emails daily after hours.

This makes sense. Energy and utility issues often happen outside office hours.
