Create a Private Network on CloudNX
When you create a Cloud Server or Bare Metal Server on Progressive Robot’s CloudNX platform, it comes with a public IPv4 address by default. If you have multiple servers, you can use this public interface for communication. But for better performance and security, setting up a private network is a great idea. The best part? You can create a private network in just 6 steps!
Let’s explore what a private network is, why you need it, and how to set it up on CloudNX.
What is CloudNX?

CloudNX is Progressive Robot’s cloud platform. It combines the flexibility of cloud resources with no contracts and pay-as-you-go billing. You can scale CPU, RAM, and SSD storage whenever you need.
The platform uses VMware technology for top-notch performance. It lets you manage Cloud Servers and Bare Metal Servers through one easy control panel. You can also connect load balancers, firewalls, and private networks for a complete setup.
CloudNX makes cloud management simple and efficient.
What is a Private Network?
A private network is a secure way for servers to communicate. It keeps data away from the public internet. This makes it safer and faster for internal communication.
With a private network, your data stays hidden from outsiders. You don’t need to encrypt it because it’s already secure. It’s perfect for connecting servers within your infrastructure.
Private networks are ideal for businesses that need secure, high-performance connections.
How to Create a Private Network on CloudNX
Creating a private network on CloudNX is easy. Follow these 6 steps:
- Log in to your CloudNX Control Panel.
- Go to ‘Create’ under ‘Private Network’.
- Name your private network.
- Enter an IP address for the network.
- Set a subnet mask.
- Choose the region and click ‘Create’.
For Cloud Servers, enabling the private network during deployment configures it automatically. For existing servers, you’ll need to reboot and manually configure the IPv4 address.
Bare Metal Servers require manual setup post-deployment. The private network appears as a tagged VLAN on the same interface as the public VLAN.
Benefits of a Private Network
A private network offers many advantages:
- Security: Data stays within your network, away from public exposure.
- Performance: Direct connections between servers reduce latency and improve reliability.
- Higher Bandwidth: Cloud Servers get more bandwidth on private networks.
- Advanced Topologies: Build multi-tier networks for complex setups.
- Jumbo MTU: Enable jumbo frames for faster data transfer.
- L2 Adjacency: Create direct connections for specific applications.
Private networks also let you divide your network into logical segments. This improves performance and reduces unnecessary traffic.
Who Needs a Private Network?
A private network is useful for many scenarios:
- Teams and Departments: Connect internal teams securely.
- Load Balancers: Set up networks linked to load balancers.
- Web Servers: Improve performance for web applications.
- Database Servers: Secure and speed up database connections.
If you use CloudNX for web apps, databases, or team collaboration, a private network can help.
